Weld Mold® 305
WA 17 chrome, 4 nickel, 4 copper precipitation hardening stainless steel alloy.
Applications
Weld Mold 305 is used for joining 17/4, 15/5 grades to themselves and dissimilar combinations of these steels. PH steels are used primarily for marine and aerospace applications such as fuel tanks, valves, gears, landing gear covers, pump parts, shafts, bolts, saws, knives and flexible bellows type joints.
Procedure
Mechanical properties of 17-4 PH are greatly influenced by heat treating. After welding heat treat between 1,825ºF and 1,925ºF for one hour. Then precipitate harden the material at 1,135ºF and 1,165ºF for four hours. No pre-heat is required when welding. Keep interpass temperatures as low as possible.
