Weld Mold® 4150
4150 is an aluminum bronze wire, which provides dense porosity-free deposits with high strength and good ductility. This alloy also has medium to good resistance to corrosion.
Applications
Weld Mold 4150 is used to join aluminum bronze, ferrous and non-ferrous weldments and dissimilar metal combinations requiring a higher tensile strength than 4010. Also used for joining Ampco® 18 alloy. Because of its low coefficient of friction it is suitable for overlaying bearing and bushing surfaces which are subject to average wear and shock.
Procedure
Clean weld area of all foreign matter and debris. For the GMAW process a gas flow of 45-55 CFH is needed to insure a bright clean weld. Use a push technique with the gun at a 35° to 45° angle. A pre-heat of 1000°F is recommended when welding on pure copper. When using the GTAW process employ an arc length of 1/16″ to 3/16″ should be maintained with the tungsten extended 1/4″ to 3/8″ beyond the cup. A dip technique similar to welding aluminum is recommended.
