Weld Mold® 612
Weld Mold 621 is a cobalt based wear facing alloy specially designed to withstand severe impact at elevated temperatures up to 1500º F. Weld deposits show superior resistance to heat checking, spalling, chipping and especially to erosion in areas of high heat concentration.
Applications
Weld Mold 621 is used as an overlay on parts subject to oxidizing and reducing atmospheres at temperatures up to 2100º F. Excellent resistance to metal on metal wear, oxidation and thermal cycling. Hot work tools including impressions in forging dies, trimming dies, high temperature valves, punches, shear blades and extrusion dies. 621 will perform well on flat and contoured surfaces of dies subject to high temperature, impact and long production runs.
Procedure
Remove all foreign material, fatigued metal, and any sharp radii. On mild steels a pre-heat of 350°F is recommended. On higher alloy steels you must pre-heat according to base metal composition, the type of weld, and the amount of deposit. Low alloy steels may be put into service in the as-welded condition. Heat treatable steels should be tempered at 1000º F for 4 to 6 hours then cooled in still air.
