Weld Mold® 702
A truly superior electrode with a coating developed through the latest technological advances. Penetration is kept to a minimum to control base metal dilution, but still gives maximum bond and wet out. Minimum heat is developed in the work piece to provide machinable welds in fusion areas. Provides superior welds in all positions
Applications
The ultimate for machinable welds on cast iron, of gray-malleable and nodular types. Especially engine heads, blocks, housings, transmissions, and gears. 702 is also used for buildup and joining iron to steel.
Procedure
Clean base metal thoroughly of all foreign substance and prepare the area to be welded by gouging, machine, etc. Preheat casting to 500°F. Use a 1/4″ long arc with slow travel speed for buildups. Use two passes when possible with short beads. Cool cast iron slowly for best results.
