Weld Mold® 85-C
Weld Mold 85-C deposits a relatively tough alloy that work hardens up to 220 BHN. The high nickel content of this rod helps to produce welds that fuse quickly with the base metal rather than wetting the base metal and flowing out as in conventional brazing type rods.
Applications
85-C is preferred for joining in repair and production operations where fit-up is poor or inconsistent. Excellent for building up gear teeth, shafts, valve seats and any wearing surface that requires antifriction properties.
Procedure
Prepare joint by removing all defective material and contaminants (dirt, rust, grinding dust, etc.) Apply 85-C using a neutral flame with the cone approximately 1/4″ from the base metal on a low angle to minimize the amount of heat input. For intricate iron castings preheat 800°F to 1000°F and slow cool.
