Weld Mold® 919
Weld Mold 919 is a typical AISI 4340 nickel, chrome, molybdenum carbon steel alloy. This material has shock resistant properties when used on cold working units where a high polish is necessary.
Applications
A versatile product when a medium hard, tough weld deposit is required. May be used on such units as die cast dies, crankshafts, gears, axles, forgings, castings, and for build up prior to overlaying with harder alloys. Weld deposits respond to the heat treatment of standard AISI 4340 steels.
Procedure
Prior to welding remove all foreign material, cracks, heat checks, etc. For build-up applications uniformly pre-heat the unit to a minimum of 600º F. When joining heavy sections bevel edges to be joined and pre-heat to 850º F minimum. Maintain interpass temperature (150+/- preheat temp.) After welding slow cool the unit in still air to below 300º F Temper to desired hardness.
