Weld Mold® 920
Primarily used for joining, building up, and repairing A.I.S.I. 8620 and other medium alloy steels where a high tensile strength (up to 105,000 psi) is required. Weld Mold 920 is excellent for underlaying prior to surfacing with a harder alloy or steels that have a high carbon base.
Applications
For joining whenever an approximate 100,000 tensile is desired. Also for buildup welding on all 8620 type steel plates, forgings, castings, and as a buildup layer under harder weld deposits. For fabricating low alloy steels, pipes, pressure vessels, where x-ray quality welds are a must. Weld deposits respond to heat treatment the same as standard A.I.S.I. 8620 steel.
Procedure
Remove all cracks and heat checks and clean area of all oxides and foreign substance. A 300º F – 400º F preheat is desirable when welding on 8620. Use those recommended for other base materials. After welding, cool to room temperature. Temper in accordance with base material recommendations when necessary.
