Weld Mold® 922
Weld Mold 922 produces typical AISI 4130 weld deposits that have high tensile strength accompanied with medium elongation. Weld deposits are readily machined and can be flame hardened up to 47RC. Multiple pass buildup is permissible without any adverse effect on weld hardness.
Applications
This product is for building up and limited joining of AISI 4130 steels when heat treatment or flame hardening is required. Used also for repair of forging dies, shafts, castings and when welding on medium to high carbon steels.
Procedure
For repairs remove all cracks, heat checks, oxides and foreign matter. Preheat unit to 500º F if base metal is in the SAE 4130 range. On other base metals preheat accordingly. Deposit stringer beads and peen each deposit while material is in the forgeable state (red hot.) After welding cool the unit to 150º F in still air. Temper according to base metal, 500ºF for SAE 4130, at one hour per inch of thickness. After temper allow material to cool in still air.
