Weld Mold® 937
Weld Mold 937 is designed for welding the A and D series A.I.S.I. tool steels and also upgrading wear areas on lower type alloys. Deposits are dense and resistant to high abrasion wear and mild impact.
Applications
Typically used to weld tools and dies such as A and D series materials. It is also very effective as an overlay on high carbon and high chromium varieties of tool steels. Examples include; extrusion dies, blanking dies, coining dies, mandrels, and forming dies.
Procedure
Prepare area to be welded by grinding out cracks and other defects. Remove all oxides and other contaminants. Preheat A.I.S.I. A-2 thru A-6 types to 600º F. Preheat high chromium A.I.S.I. D-2 thru D-5 types to 900º F. On base metals other than air hardening, preheat accordingly. Deposit short stringer beads and maintain temperature during welding. Peen deposit rapidly when forgeable. After welding, cool unit in still air to 400º F and then temper at the preheat temperature for one hour per inch of thickness.
