Weld Mold® 966
Deposits are very dense and have high resistance to abrasion and frictional wear. Maximum hardness is retained at temperatures up to 1100º F.
Applications
Used where the highest performance weld deposits are required for greater wear resistance at high temperatures. Examples include hot and cold trimming dies, blanking dies, piercing dies, shear blades, cutting and shaving knives. Excellent for cladding high wear areas on equipment and also for building composite dies and tools.
Procedure
Prior to welding remove all cracks, oxides, and other foreign matter. Preheat high-speed units to 1000ºF. On base metal other than high-speed tool steel, preheat and post-heat accordingly. Maintain temperature during welding. Deposit short stringer beads. Peen each deposit rapidly when forgeable. After welding, cool unit to 400ºF in still air. Temper at 1000ºF for one hour per inch of thickness at the tempering temperature. It is highly advisable to double temper.
